EVERTON 2023-24 SEASON REVIEW: GOAL OF THE SEASON

Coming up with a list like goal of the season is always tricky because it is so subjective, but I have tried to come up with a list that most Evertonians will agree with.

They may not be in the order you would like, but I imagine the majority of these strikes will be on your long list - though if you have any other candidates please let us know in the comments!

Here we go:

10: Andre Gomes v Tottenham

Andre Gomes made an immediate impact when he came off the bench for his first appearance of the season against Tottenham in December, rifling home into the far corner after a corner was cleared into his path. Sadly, it was not enough to avoid a unlucky 2-1 defeat.

9: Lewis Dobbin v Chelsea

This was a wonderful moment for the academy graduate, who lashed home from the edge of the box late on for his first senior goal, sparking wild celebrations. It also turned out to be his only goal for the Toffees, with Dobbin completing a move to Aston Villa earlier this month.

8: Dwight McNeil v Newcastle

Everton were in the midst of their points deduction-inspired run of wins when Dwight McNeil fired home the opener against Newcastle at Goodison in one of their most impressive home wins of the season.

7: Beto v Newcastle

Beto wrapped up the win in the closing stages by muscling past Fabian Schar before firing through Martin Dubravka’s legs after a 29-pass move.

6: McNeil v Forest (A)

Everton began the game at Nottingham Forest in December bottom of the table, so Dwight McNeil’s howitzer from the angle was vital, giving the Toffees their first win since the 10-point deduction.

5: McNeil v Forest (H)

Another vital strike by McNeil came against the same opposition in April, the former Burnley man rifling home low into the corner from distance to seal a 2-0 win against Everton’s relegation rivals.

4: Andre Gomes v Crystal Palace

A dour game on a freezing night at Goodison was lit up by a fantastic free kick from Andre Gomes, who continued to show fleeting glimpses of quality in what would be his final season in royal blue.

3: Jarrad Branthwaite v Brighton

Jarrad Branthwaite’s breakthrough season was of course built on his defensive qualities. But he also chipped in with the odd goal, with the pick of them is fine left-footed strike at Brighton that could have earned all three points but for a last-gasp Lewis Dunk header.

2: Jack Harrison v Bournemouth

From a technique point of view this is probably Everton’s best goal of the campaign, with Harrison executing the perfect first-time volley to go over the keeper before dipping and hitting the bar before going into the net.

1: Dominic Calvert-Lewin v Liverpool

Ok, this was just a header from a corner, but it is the context behind the goal that makes it my number one. Everton had waited so long for a Goodison derby win and it was fitting that the game was sealed by a thunderous header from a Toffees number nine. It already has iconic status.
